Agrochemicals

Agrochemicals or agrichemicals, is a common name given to chemicals which are used in agriculture, to aid plant’s and crop’s growth and safety. Agrochemicals are manufactured to protect agricultural crops from pests and for augmenting crop yields.

Classifications of Agrochemicals:

Agrochemicals are classified as the following:

1. Pesticides: Pesticide is a chemical or a substance used to destroy or control some types of plants or organisms also known as pests, which are harmful to cultivated plants or to animals.

2. Insecticides: It is used to destroy insects. Insecticides can be ovicides that kill eggs, larvicides to kill larvae. Insecticides examples: Emamectin-Benzoate 5% SG, Thiamethoxam 25% WG.

3. Herbicides: It is used to control or kill weeds and herbs. Herbicides examples: Atrazine 50% WP, Bispyric Sodium 10% SC.

4. Fungicides: It is used for controlling fungi and oomycetes. Fungicides examples: Sulphur 80% WDG, Tricyclazole 75% WP

5. Algaecides: used for controlling algae. Also known as algicides.

6. Rodenticides: It is used to prevent spread of rodents like rat, mice. Examples: Klerat.

7. Molluscicides: used to control molluscs like snails and slugs. Examples: Slugit

8. Nematicides: It is used to control or killing nematodes. Examples: Furadan.

Following five major types of Agrochemical formulations are dealt:
1. Wettable powder / Soluble Powder

Major molecules: Acetamiprid 20% SP, Carbendazym 12% + Mancogeb 63% WP, Diafenthiuron 50% WP, Tricyclazole 75% WP, Atrazine 50% WP

2. Soluble Granules / Wettable Granules / Wettable Dispersing Granules

Major molecules: Emamectin-Benzoate 5% SG, Thiamethoxam 25% WG, Sulphur 80% WDG

3. Coated – Granules / Granules

Major molecules: Cartap-Hydrochloride, 4% GR

4. Suspension-Concentrate

Major molecules: Profenophos 40%+Cypertmethrine 4% SC, Hexaconazol 5% SC, Bispyric Sodium 10% SC

5. Emulsifying Concentrate / Soluble Liquid / Liquid

Major molecules: Cyper Methrine 5% + Chlorpyrephos 50% EC, Imidacloprid 17.8% SL, Validamycine 3% L
